Project 365 #48 – Robin

When I work from home I sit right next to our patio doors and we have hung up bird feeders near them to entice birds to visit somewhere we can see (our cat loves it too). This robin did exactly that.

You can’t really tell it’s taken through double glazing; the trick to get rid of that washed out ‘taken-through-a-window’ look is to bump up the contrast and pull down the blacks. I also added a graduated over-exposure filter from the top left down to the bottom right to make it look a bit like it’s not freezing cold outside.

The main problem with this photo is the shutter speed was too low; the feathers on the lower half of the robin’s body are blurred from it moving (breathing?) and I had plenty of ISO range to play with. Otherwise, this one is really nice 🙂

Lens: 70-200mm f/4 L IS
Focal length: 200mm
Aperture: f/5
Shutter speed: 1/80
ISO: 500
Flash: Did not fire.
