Stuff I Like (Week ending 4th March 2012)

  • This week (at work) I helped successfully launch ‘The Times Crossword BETA‘ to the Mozilla Marketplace as part of Mobile World Congress. Let me know what you think!
  • Raspberry Pi launched this week in partnership with two suppliers – RS and Farnell – whose websites immediately went down after the announcement. All 10,000 units sold out almost immediately. Fortunately, Farnell have now begun to re-open preorders and I have been able to place one, lead time is apparently 30 days. I’m going to try to create an AirPlay receiver for our TV (saves on buying a real Apple TV).
  • Previously I mentioned I really like Icarus, by Madeon. It was finally released this week and you can pick it up on iTunes, AmazonSpotify or probably just about anywhere else.
  • Based on the SheevaPlug, Pwnie Express (great name!) have launched the PwnPlug, a ‘pen-testing drop box’ that looks a bit like an air freshener or power supply, but actually creates a covert backdoor into any target network. It even sends you a text message when it is up and running! However at $480.00, I can’t help but think you could make one yourself for a lot cheaper if you just use an afore-mentioned Raspberry Pi…

And finally, @antoniamoreno and I went to the 2012 Pokémon Video Game Championships on Saturday. While we didn’t enter, it was great fun being a spectator. Maybe next year!
